Founder

Samir Modi was born in the month of Dec 1969 as the youngest scion to Mr. K.K Modi and Mrs Bina Modi who ran a two billion dollar company named “Modi Enterprises”. He joined Harvard Business School for his education before moving back to India where he started working within their family business, holding various responsible positions along with it too.

After completion of schooling from Indian schools, Samir moved overseas at an age 16 years old only under guidance of both parents so that he could get a degree from Harvard University which is one among top educational institutions all over world and also having alumni such as Bill Gates etc. He studied there till year 1990 studying management course/course work then came back home after completing his graduation.

Launch
Samir Modi started his own company in 1996 with twelve products and three hundred distributors. He was always excited about being able to do something on his own, challenging himself more than he had when working for the family business.

A cosmetics business segment was left without a leader when the head of its division retired in 2003. The new company president, who had previously worked in an entirely different section of the family’s corporation, immediately saw potential for growth within this field and began introducing future-oriented products to market with innovative ideas that would set his brand apart from competitors’.

In 2004, he launched a new brand of cosmetics and named it Colorbar. The idea was to change the buying experience of women who bought beauty products by tailoring his offerings to suit the Indian population while maintaining world-class quality standards.

Journey
When it comes to entering a market, there are already deeply entrenched brands that make for an extremely difficult competition. Despite the quality of products being on par with international standards in cosmetics and personal care accessories, Colorbar was struggling due to lack of brand awareness among consumers who were more inclined towards famous names present long before its existence.

In 2010, Modi’s revenue was only Rs. 30 crore and he knew the situation wasn’t great but had to divide his time between other business ventures for Modis’ Enterprises where held key positions. He still made a big decision by getting on board experienced professionals from the cosmetics industry who could contribute their expertise in this area of work that they know very well.Colorbar was a popular cosmetics brand that started as an affordable, prestige makeup line for the masses. But by 2013 it had grown into becoming one of India’s leading 100+ crore cosmetic brands and consumers began to take notice. The company decided on shifting its focus towards creating a distinct identity in order to become ‘different’ from peer products with all international standards yet Indian at heart instead developing just increasing linear scale expansion of their product range.
